Holiday Movie Rentals From Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) And Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) Unveiled At A Discount

Movie rentals will be available from both Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) for just $0.99 during the holiday season. The promotion applies to one movie only and has to be redeemed by January 23, 2017. To get the offer on Amazon Video, users will be required to quote MOVIE99 in order to claim the discount. Google’s discount will be automatically added and then applied in the checkout process.

Classics and blockbusters

Classics, as well as current blockbusters, will be on offer. The blockbusters that are on the list include Captain America: Civil War, Ghostbusters, The BFG, Suicide Squad and Jason Bourne. Classics such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Polar Express, The Santa Clause, Elf, The Muppet Christmas Carol, A Christmas Story, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, and Jingle All the Way will also be available.

With regards to the specific streaming service, Amazon Video’s catalog boasts of more than 49,000 titles. Popular films such as Die Hard, Finding Dory, the Harry Potter movies, Bridget Jones’ Baby,  and Sully will be available on this service as well as The Magnificent Seven remake.

Google’s catalog on the other hand consists of thousands of titles with Now You See Me, Home Alone, and The Lego Movie being just a small sample. Additionally, Google will also be offering a discount amounting to 50% for buyers of some selected movie titles such as X-Men Apocalypse, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Warcraft, Star Trek: Beyond, and Kubo and the Two Strings.

Battle of the titans

For Amazon, the promotion will be seen as yet another salvo aimed at Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX). The e-commerce giant recently took its video streaming business globally and priced the service at a more competitive rate than Netflix. While Netflix charges basic subscribers $8.99 a month, Amazon’s offering was priced at $5.99 per month.

In Friday’s trading session, shares of Alphabet Inc edged lower by 0.23% to close the day at $807.80. in the same trading session, shares of Amazon also fell by 0.75% to close the day at $760.59.
